L’Oreal Dark Sides of Grey nail polishes swatches + review

Purchased by Me button2014 favorite button | Be Happy And Buy PolishGood morning, beautiful reader! I’m so excited to bring you the L’Oreal Dark Sides of Grey nail polish collection this morning. I spotted this at one of my Walgreen’s and over the past week, picked all of them up. Click through after the collage to see each one, and my thoughts!

L'Oreal Dark Sides of Grey collection | Be Happy And Buy Polish

First up is Aux Chandelles, a blue-tinged grey polish that dries almost waxy. This is L’Oreal polish at its worst, unfortunately: very thin, hard to control, and uneven. This is 3 coats:

Next is Masked Affair, a truly gorgeous grey-slight purple holographic polish. Formula is perfection! It reminds me a bit of Dance Legend High Hopes, just not as pink. It does dry a bit satin, I’m showing it with one coat of top coat. This is 3 coats:

Then we have Caution Please, a silver-grey polish that dries with a weirdly gritty texture. The texture also didn’t cover consistently – I noticed a few bald spots when I looked at my pictures. I honestly can’t make up my mind whether I like this or not. This is 2 coats:

With copious amounts of top coat:

Next up is Miss Grey, a grey-green polish that dries with a satin finish. This is also thin, and brush-strokey, shown in 2 coats:

Totally D’Accord is next, a blackened blue-green polish that dries with a rough texture. This had a great formula to me, shown here in 2 coats:

With many coats of top coat:

Next is Grey Corset, a deep grey-blue polish that dries with a matte finish. The formula is *almost* right, just a little too thin for me. Plus, it’s almost a One-Coat Wonder. It does dry very fast though, so don’t overwork it. This is 2 coats:

Plus one coat of top coat:

Bad Bad Grey is next, a blackened purple-red polish that also dries to a weirdly gritty texture. Formula on this is a bit thin, shown here in 2 coats:

With so much top coat:

Lastly is Power Potion, a grey-black polish that dries to a satin finish. Again, thin and brush-strokey. This is 2 coats:

Overall, I’d say I give this collection a B minus. L’Oreal’s polishes unfortunately are usually very thin formulas, and so it shouldn’t be a surprise that 5 of the polishes were hard to control and easy to flood the cuticles. Stand-outs for me are: Masked Affair (durrr), Totally D’Accord, Grey Corset, and Bad Bad Grey.

Which polishes are you loving here? Will you be picking any of these up?

  1. I ❤ ❤ greys! I was excited to see these. Disappointed with Aux Chandelles. Color is so pretty. Thank you for the swatches, really helped me decide which ones I want and don't. Most definitely buying that holo!

  9. I LOVE the Miss Grey color, it has a slightly greenish hue to it, but it works for me. I also purchased Bad Bad Grey and had no idea that it was a textured polish. It looks glittery in the bottle and the bottle and display at Walgreen’s gave no hint of the gritty texture. I agree, it’s weird; especially when you are not expecting it. I don’t like surprises, when it comes to my hard earned cash.
