Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Freestyle

Good morning lovelies! It’s the start of a beautiful weekend here, and I hope wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, you’re enjoying yourself. 🙂 Today, I was inspired by a cake I saw on “Sunday Sweets” on Cake Wrecks, by Cake Nouveau:

Because what says celebrating more than a fancy owl? (Well, I’m sure quite a lot of things, but I liked it!) I started off with a base of Wet N Wild Stand the Test of Lime on all nails except the accent nail, which was 2 coats of Wet N Wild A Blank Canvas.

On the green nails, I used Wet N Wild Caribbean Frost for the scrolls. Then for the owl, I used Wet n Wild Black Creme, The Clock Strikes Orange, Who Is Ultra Violet, Here Comes Temptation, and Here Comes Trouble. Then I topped it off with Glisten & Glow’s HK Girl topcoat.

This fancy owl is all ready to go celebrating! I can’t wait to see all the manis for today!

Thanks to everyone who participated in some way in the challenge this month. Just a reminder that you can join our Challenge Your Nail Art on Facebook. I’ll have some really pretty polishes this coming week, so I hope you stick around! Until the next time,

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Circus Day

Good morning! For today’s theme of Circus Day, I wanted to invoke the feeling of the funhouse, and the craziness and mixed-up-ness (yes, I’ll invent my own words, thank you!) of the funhouse. So I tried for a water marble.

I’ve used Sinful Colors Snow Me White as a base. For the water marble, I’ve used Jessica Conch Shell (pink), Dynamite Teal, Yellow Lightning, Monsoon Melon (orange), and Argon Blue.

This didn’t turn out quite like I wanted, but it’s pretty nonetheless! Let’s see what others came up with for today:

Tomorrow is the last day and it’s freestyle or recreate another’s manicure from the challenge. I can’t wait to see everyone’s nail art! Until then,

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Peace Day

Good morning everyone! I hope you’re enjoying all the nail art so far. I’ll be honest, as much as I love creating nail art, I have some really pretty polishes that I get to show you next week and I’m beginning to be impatient! LOL 🙂

Today’s theme is “Peace Day”. When I looked this up originally, I didn’t realize that it was just “Wear Purple for Peace day”, not the international one that’s in September. (Oops!) So, I decided to do a purple gradient today with a dove with an olive branch.

I’ve started off with a new purple from OPI, OPI Push & Pur-pull. This is 3 coats over OPI Alpine Snow:

Yeah, I’m not a fan of this color, to be honest. It was weirdly patchy, and the formula was thin (like run all over my darn cuticles thin!). :/ I then used OPI Steady as She Rose (lightest purple), and OPI Do You Lilac It (mid-purple) for the gradient.

Lastly, I used OPI Alpine Snow for the olive branch and the dove, and topped it with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Let’s see what everyone else did for Peace Day:

What are your thoughts on this nail art, or on OPI Push & Pur-pull? I’d love to know what you think in the comments! Tomorrow is “Circus Day” theme, and we’ll see if I pull it off! Until then,

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Memorial Day

Good morning everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. Today I have a special manicure for you, to honor the theme of “Memorial Day.” Some of you may know that a few years ago, my uncle’s remains were returned to my family. His helicopter had been shot down during the Vietnam conflict, and his remains hadn’t been recovered for almost 40 years. Memorial Day has always held a special place in my family for many years, and I wanted to do something to honor my uncle.

I decided I would recreate part of the patch we received, this is what his company was called:

I’ve used Verity Hot Baby Blue for the background (reviewed here). I then used OPI Did You ‘Ear About Van Gogh, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Sephora by OPI High Maintenance, essie licorice, and JulieG Canary Islands.

I hope you enjoyed this manicure, I know I enjoyed creating it. If you celebrate or otherwise enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, please remember those families who honor their loved ones.

Let’s take a look at the other manicures for today:

I just love what everyone is coming up with so far, aren’t you? Until tomorrow,

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Graduations

Hello out there in internet-land! 🙂 I hope you are looking forward to a spectacular day today. The prompt for today is “Graduations.” I decided to go with a traditional theme of cap & diploma, plus some confetti!

The base is 2 coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. I then used Sinful Colors Black on Black, Pur Rouge, Pull Over; the glitter base is SOPI Spark-tacular. I then topped it off with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

How did everyone do their mani today? Let’s see!

I hope you are enjoying the challenge posts so far! I know that here in Montana, graduations are getting ready to be celebrated. When do high schools & colleges graduate in your area? I’d love to know. 🙂 Also, just a note, I have a guest post up at The Dalai Lama’s Nails, so check that out as well!

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Party On!

Good morning all! I have to tell you that for today’s challenge prompt, I could not get this out of my head (skip to about 5:42):

So, instead of fighting it, I gave into temptation and tried my hand at Wayne & Garth.

I’ve used Jessica Argon Blue for the base, with Jessica Sharktooth for the clouds and Jessica Monsoon Melon for the lettering. I’ve also used Jessica Blue Aria (dark blue), Jessica Sunset Blvd (black), Jessica Strawberry Shake It (pink), Jessica Desire (red), OPI My Vampire is Buff (flesh-tone), and OPI A-Taupe the Space Needle (brown). Lastly, I topped it off with KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Wayne looks a little funny, but I think Garth came out okay. 🙂 I should have used a lighter blue for Wayne’s hat; I knew there was no way I could get “Wayne’s World” on the hat though (I’d need a smaller brush for sure).

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge: Mother’s Day

Good morning all! I have to tell you, I love showing off pretty polishes, but I can’t wait to stretch my creativity and do nail art. Today starts a week-long nail art challenge, the Celebrate the Occasion challenge!

I’ve decided to do something a bit old-school for today’s challenge: Sailor Jerry tattoo-inspired nail art! I’ve done this before on the blog, but I really wanted to try it out again.

I started off with 2 coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff, then top coated with Glisten & Glow’s HK Girl. I then used OPI Over and Over A-Gwen (red), Black Onyx (black), and Don’t Pretzel My Buttons (darker cream).
